Influence is something that always comes up when we're discussing pain points or challenges as an engineer. The more senior you become, the more cross-functional collaboration becomes crucial. In order to be a successful leader, you need to master the skill of persuading people to help you make changes, implement key decisions, and move forward. As part of an EXA Career Conversations series, “Principles of Influence,” Exaltitude Founders Jean discussed the different ways to have influence as engineers.

I can’t believe it’s already our 1 year anniversary at Exaltitude! 🎉
When I resigned from Facebook/WhatsApp as an Engineering Manager, I didn’t know what would lie ahead in my life.
I knew that my passion was in supporting engineers with career growth, but I wasn’t sure how exactly I was going to connect with engineers.
Our first breakthrough was a connection to Hack Reactor through my dear friend Jaehyun Lim. I met him in 2016 when he was thinking about a career transition to become an engineer. I mentored many people who through career changes, but not everyone is as successful as him in landing a dream job like him!
When I told Jaehyun about Exaltitude, he got excited and offered to help us share the program.
I quickly put together a landing page for him and he shared it with his HackReactor alumni group. Even though the landing page looked very "homemade" 😂 we got 60+ sign-ups that day.
What was most meaningful about the first sign ups was the validation that helping “engineers get to the next level” is something that engineers are looking for – This really fueled our growth for the next year! 🚀
We tweaked our messaging and offering through the past year with three successful cohorts. The feedback and responses we’ve been overwhelmingly positive!
Our 3rd cohort that graduated last week was completely full and our 4th cohort with an upcoming deadline this Friday has just a few spots left.
My Co-founder, Soyoung and I really believe in unlocking everyone’s full potential as an engineer, and it's been a blessing to work with so many bright talents! ❤️
Thanks to everyone for people part of our journey. I’d like to, especially thank:
- Michael Donohue and Andrew Sveikauskas for the first ever newsletter interviews with us
- Brian Pontarelli for helping us connect with many successful leaders in tech to interview with us for our blog
- Lexi Lewtan for sharing all your brilliant business tips
- Everyone who’s interviewed for our blog to share advice and tips for Engineering leadership
